Choosing Ideal Wig: Texture and Facial Shape
In part one of this two-part blog series, we talked about some of the most important variables you should be considering as you choose the ideal wig for your needs. From your basic hairstyle and length to several other important areas, there are multiple different considerations to keep in mind while making this selection.
At Judi's Wigs, we're happy to not only offer a wide selection of wigs and hair pieces to all our clients, but also to help them with all the important variables they might be considering while making their choice. What are some of the other top elements you should be factoring in here? Let's go over several.
Desired Wig Texture
We left off in part one with your desired wig length; once you've determined this, you can move to considering the texture of the wig. Broadly speaking, your choices in this area are as follows:
Straight: A straighter, smoother texture that gives a flat look.
Wavy: A curlier, bouncier texture that gives a more natural look.
Curly: A very curly texture that gives a voluminous look.
There's absolutely no such thing as a "wrong" texture; it's simply a matter of your personal preference, given the overall length and style you're looking for. The important thing is to keep in mind how much time you're willing to put into styling this wig on a daily basis before making your final choice -- straight wigs tend to require very little maintenance, whereas curly ones take a bit more effort.
Shape of Your Face
Another vital consideration here is the shape of your face, which is often a top variable for many wig shoppers. Here are the typical face shapes you will fall somewhere under:
Oval shape: Those with oval-shaped faces, with a forehead slightly wider than the chin and a rounded jawline, have a wide variety of wig options, from wavy styles to flat shoulder-length flips and more.
Round shape: Those with round faces, which are more rounded than oval ones and have a more prominent chin, will often find that wavy styles tend to balance out their natural shape. They often look to avoid too much flatness with their wigs, looking for wavy or curly options instead.
Square shape: Those with square-shaped faces, which have a broad forehead and chin and a more prominent jawline, can easily look out of proportion with some longer wigs. Instead, they tend to do well with short or medium styles that add weight at the bottom while keeping their facial structure in check.
Long shape: Those with long faces, which are longer than they are wide, will often find that diagonal styles look awkward on them. Instead, they're better served by their options with more flatness to it to cut off the length while giving weight at the bottom.
Heart shape: Those with heart-shaped faces should avoid shoulder-length or longer styles and instead opt for options with less volume and more weight on the bottom. This helps to balance out their natural shape, giving them a fuller look overall.
