Travel and Packing Tips for Alternative Hair Pieces

Wigs and quality hair pieces offer value to their owners in several ways, and one of these is your ability to bring them with you anywhere you go. If you travel regularly, there are a few simple approaches you should be taking to packing and storing your wigs to ensure they're in great shape when you reach your destination.

At Judi's Wigs, we're proud to not only offer a huge range of wigs for clients in Tulsa, Broken Arrow and nearby areas, but also to provide assistance with important themes like traveling with your hair pieces when necessary. What are some basic tips we can offer clients on how to travel with their alternative hair pieces? Here are some basic dos and don'ts for this process.

Packing a suit case

DOs for Wig Travel

Here are some themes to ensure you cover when packing wigs for any trip:

  • Consider number of wigs needed: If you're traveling with a hair piece for one head, be sure to pack it in the box that was sent by your ordering stylist. This ensures it stays clean and secure. If you are packing more than one wig, put each wig in its own container, whether this is a shoebox-style container or some other plastic case.

  • Pack carefully: Any wig being packed should be placed inside-out, with long locks gently set inside the wing top. From here, you should put a hair net over the entire piece to keep all of your locks in place and secure. In addition, many choose to wrap their wigs within a plastic or other bag type where it can be sealed to avoid moisture.

  • Place wig in a case: Be sure to find an appropriately-sized container for your wig, and use this container to hold the wig while transporting it. If necessary, you can cover the container with a cloth or paper towel and store it out of direct light until you need to wear it.

DON'Ts for Wig Travel

And on the flip side, some areas or risks to avoid:

  • Packing wigs like socks: Wigs are incredibly lightweight, often similar to socks you'll be packing -- but attempting to pack these in the same way is a recipe for disaster. Wigs should be packed in containers, whether inside-out or right side up.

  • Other packing errors: Other packing errors include failing to place hair pieces in their container, or not including the wig cap to ensure your locks are securely placed.

  • Leaving wigs out: Leaving your hair piece out while traveling is asking for trouble. If you must leave it out because an emergency arises and you absolutely need to use it during the trip, be sure to pack it away again when your journey is done.
